The RTPI East of England Awards for Planning Excellence is given to outstanding planners, plans and projects in the Eastern region of England.

Three projects delivered by Bidwells’ planning team have been nominated:

  • Phase One – Cambridge Science Park, Cambridge. A redevelopment of the oldest part of the park to deliver speculative accommodation for the city’s flourishing science and technology sector, while embracing the modern planning agenda in support of sustainability, health and wellbeing, public realm and anti-poverty.

  • Moulsham Lodge, Chelmsford, Essex. The delivery of 26 stunning new homes, including eight for adults with learning disabilities, on a technically constrained brownfield site in the heart of Chelmsford.

  • Pix Brook Academy, Stotfold, Central Bedfordshire. A state-of-the-art purpose-built secondary school, with playing fields, associated infrastructure and landscaping including an external eco-learning ‘Now or Never’ pod.

Head of Planning at Bidwells, Mike Derbyshire, said:

“These three projects showcase the diversity of work across the East of England. Ranging from assisting Essex Housing find new homes for adults with learning difficulties, to a state-of-the-art school, and of course leading the way in the science and technology sector with the modernisation and expansion the Cambridge Science Park.

“Our region leads the way in so many fields and Bidwells delights in helping to make new ideas happen, with equally innovative planning approaches. Congratulations to all the nominated companies and thank you to all our partners and clients for their hard work in delivering them.”

The awards highlight "exceptional examples of how planning and planners have a positive impact on our quality of life in creating exceptional places and protecting our environment".

The Regional Judging Panel have now reviewed and judged all entries, and the winners will be announced at the RTPI East of England Awards for Planning Excellence Virtual Awards ceremony on Tuesday 30th November 2021.

Winners will be automatically shortlisted to the RTPI’s 2022 National Awards.
